AL CONGRESO DE LOS ESTADOS UNIDOS: NO APOYEN LA EXCLUSIÓN DE FARC DE LISTA DE TERRORISTAS

Pedimos respetuosamente a los miembros del Congreso de los Estados Unidos que se opongan a la exclusión de las FARC como grupo terrorista, con toda la ayuda económica a Colombia destinada a implementar los acuerdos entre los gobiernos de Juan Manuel Santos e Iván Duque, y las FARC. Además, los instamos a oponerse a cualquier apoyo político del gobierno de Estados Unidos a estos acuerdos y, en cambio, apoyen al pueblo de Colombia, que ha sido el más afectado por la violencia y persecución que las FARC han desatado contra la población civil y el ejército durante décadas.

Los colombianos anhelamos la paz, pero la paz sin impunidad. Y así quedó como mandato cuando los colombianos votaron NO a los acuerdos con las FARC. Sin embargo, el expresidente Álvaro Uribe negoció esa victoria y entregó el país a las FARC en bandeja de plata. Los líderes terroristas de estos grupos obtuvieron 10 escaños en el Congreso y en el gobierno de Iván Duque se otorgarán 20 más.

El pueblo colombiano está indefenso ante esta atrocidad. A las FARC se les permitió quedarse con las armas, con territorio nacional, y sospechamos que con las rutas de la droga a Estados Unidos. El grupo narcoterrorista pretendía desmovilizarse pero sabemos que es el mismo truco de siempre: se “desmovilizan”, pero una facción mayoritaria sigue cometiendo crímenes. Se les llama “disidentes”, pero son las mismas FARC de siempre.

Los colombianos comprenden que tal acuerdo no ha traído, y no traerá la paz, pero sí empoderará a las FARC, cuyo objetivo autoproclamado es, como siempre lo ha sido, derrocar al gobierno democrático de Colombia.

Los colombianos no quieren ser gobernados por una banda de terroristas bien armados y financiados con drogas, a quienes sin ningún acto de verdad, contrición, expiación o restitución se les ha dado estatus político. Los resultados hasta ahora han sido devastadores. La violencia ha aumentado, los ataques terroristas son un hecho cotidiano, los asesinatos selectivos están aumentando, al igual que los cultivos ilícitos y el tráfico de drogas. Eso es peligroso para la región.

Si el Congreso de los Estados Unidos quiere ayudar a restaurar la democracia, los derechos humanos, la justicia y el estado de derecho en Colombia, no debe respaldar la exclusión de las FARC de la lista de grupos terroristas, ni financiar o apoyar los acuerdos que surjan como resultado de ese hecho.

To the United States Congress

Do not provide financial or political support for the exclusion of the FARC narco-terrorist group from the list of terrorist groups.

We respectfully ask the members of the United States Congress to oppose the exclusion of the FARC as a terrorist group, with all economic aid to Colombia aimed at implementing agreements between the governments of Juan Manuel Santos and Iván Duque, and the FARC. Furthermore, we urge you to oppose any political support from the United States government for these agreements and, instead, stand with the people of Colombia, who have been the most affected by the violence and persecution that the FARC has unleashed against the civilian population and the military for decades.

We Colombians yearn for peace, but peace without impunity. And so it remained as a mandate when Colombians voted NO to the agreements with the FARC. However, former President Álvaro Uribe negotiated that victory and handed the country over to the FARC on a silver platter. The terrorist leaders of these groups were awarded 10 seats in Congress, and in the government of Iván Duque, 20 more will be awarded.

The Colombian people are defenseless in the face of this atrocity. The FARC were allowed to keep the weapons, with national territory, and we suspect that with the drug routes to the United States. The narco-terrorist group pretended to demobilize but we know that it is the same old trick: They “demobilize”, but a majority faction continues to commit crimes. They are called “dissidents”, but they are the same FARC as always.

Colombians understand that such an agreement has not brought and will not bring peace, but it will empower the FARC, whose self-proclaimed objective is, as it has always been, to overthrow the democratic government of Colombia.

Colombians do not want to be ruled by a gang of well-armed and drug-financed terrorists, who without any act of truth, contrition, atonement, or restitution have been given political status. The results so far have been devastating. Violence has increased, terrorist attacks are a daily occurrence, selective assassinations are increasing, as are illicit crops and drug trafficking. That is dangerous for the region.

If the United States Congress wants to help restore democracy, human rights, justice, and the rule of law in Colombia, it must not endorse the exclusion of the FARC from the list of terrorist groups, nor finance or support agreements that come as a result of that fact.
